Rare earth magnets made from exotic materials such as samarium, boron and neodymium are the most powerful ever made. They have quietly revolutionised product design by giving us new types of electric motor, loudspeakers, micro-stereo headphones, magnetic drive systems – and many more. They can be used to demonstrate phenomena not possible with ordinary magnets - for example, supercharging small electric motors as shown, making loudspeakers or the trigger mechanism in our cola fountain (see the TEST TUBE)
Our new range of rare earth magnets includes a number of miniature sizes that professional jewellers are now incorporating in their work as a substitute for traditional fastenings. A typical brooch, for example, has a magnet fixed to the rear that latches onto another one inside a garment.
